This past Sunday marked the inauguration of the 2015 League of Outlaws class at Payette Brewing. If you weren’t there or didn’t jump in to the league when you had the chance, I strongly suggest that you mark your calendar to take part next when it comes back around. Like so many brew related experiences in the greater Boise area, the thing that makes clubs like this so entertaining is that it brings a pretty diverse group together to meet, mingle, and be, under the common love for great beer.
We kicked off the afternoon with a few drinks and a tapping of a special cask aged Rodeo Rye along with some outstanding wood fired food truck pizza (which I am ashamed to say I didn’t catch the name of). While enjoying some food and brew there was a quick run down of what we could expect in the coming year, personally I’m quite excited about early access to their Black Friday event. Be sure to check out the video of “Calamity Jane” tapping the keg for us. It made a bit of a mess, but the fruits of her labor were absolutely worth it!
Keg tapped and beer flowing, a few of us proceeded on the brewery tour where we were introduced to the more “behind the scenes” setup. Being that the bar is located within the brewery, there isn’t a whole lot that you can’t see from the tap room, but still it was interesting to get more up close and personal with the process and see where the magic happens. Lots of pictures for your viewing pleasure below. Needless to say, Payette has seen what can only be called exponential growth since their opening in 2011 including the number of beers on tap as well as the introduction of the onsite canning system (which is very cool to see in action). If you haven’t yet been through the brewery tour, I definitely recommend you put that on your short list of things to do.
All in all, participation is a no brainer in my humble opinion. For the $40 cost to join, I will enjoy discounted beers and growler fills for the year, get discounts on a few swag items, at least two “League of Outlaw” parties, early admission to Black Friday, and get the VIP treatment while on site. I said it before and I’ll say it again, if you like to drink good beer in Boise, this is a club to keep on your radar. Full photo album of the event can be found here.
